Setup Email Alerts for Blocked Requests
Anthony Caruthers
I agree this would be useful as we have employees that seem to be getting the custom blocked page we assigned to the policy, but fail to request access. They simply try again later. Not sure what they are thinking as the blocked page has our logo and a notice and everything, however some of our ordering sites have been blocked before and the order gets missed, but nothing was reported to suggest that the filters we have in place were in need of an adjustment to allow proper authorized safe access to a business ording portal. Thank for the consideration!

Gentle nudge on this, it would be great to generate emails when DNS Filter blocks malware pages - this is a high risk event that requires follow up.

We are looking at moving from Umbrella and this is where DNSFIlter falls short a bit. Umbrella doesn't alert on every block (waaay too many), but it does when there is an indication of C&C traffic within the network.

Hi karik, thanks for the feedback. While we do not have built in block alerts you can achieve the same result from our recent Zapier integration. The 1st example on our integrations page (https://zapier.com/apps/dnsfilter/integrations) is a great starting place. Reach out to our support team or myself (mpruitt@dnsfilter.com) if you need assistance.Hi

Mikey @DNSFilter: tbh, I'm not too interested in getting yet another tool / subscription just to use this tool / subscription.
Mikey @DNSFilter
karik: That is completely understandable. Alerting is high on our priority list.

Mikey @DNSFilter: It would be great if the alert is based on anomaly or count preset by the admins. So alerts are triggered when a threshold is reached per roaming client/user that there is a repeated attempt to open a blocked site or threat site. Many times it is just a embedded script which triggers alert so it will be a no brainer to enable alert for every blocked site.

Great suggestion. Thanks Madanraj, we'll keep these recommendations in mind while scoping our direct alerting feature.

Mikey @DNSFilter: It would be great if powerautomate could also have the same features as Zapier has.

Mikey @DNSFilter: These integration do not seem to works any more. The Zap sends the test email, but nothing triggers after everything is turned on and in action.

Is there an update on when we can expect this to be in progress?

Hi All, can email alerts be triggered if a bypass key is used? if not...can this be included in the master Email Alert plan?

It would be great if this alert could be a webhook for MS Teams/Slack. Then if it goes to a channel this is the option to hit allow or ignore and it would send the request back to DNSFilter and modify the policy.

We are currently working on an Alert system and currently plan to include Blocked Requests as one of the alerts. I'm marking this feature request as planned. Stay tuned!

Mikey @DNSFilter: When do you think this Alert system will be implemented?
Timothy
Maybe not
every
time a request gets blocked, but be able to set a category and/or specific domains to get alerted on with a 1 mail per x minutes kind of option?Webhooks for the same would also be good. We can get notifications in Teams that way.

We had interesting case recently where office 365 got blocked (somewhat out of the blue, probably due to a reclassification of Outlook) and our email partially stopped working. It was not obvious what the problem was as the first time outlook tried to connect the email was received and sent, and then on subsequent connects the account was unavailable.
It was hard to diagnose as I didn't immediately think of DNS filter as the problem (all other Office 365 access was working).
I'm not sure that a noisy "blocked" emails would have helped me, but perhaps.
