Transparent URL Filtering

Allow URL filtering, where only a specific URL or directory (IE: www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/) would be filtered, but not the entire domain.
Note: HTTPS support would require installing our Root CA SSL Certificate - https://trello.com/c/GVov9v6V/34-installable-ca-for-ssl-blocked-sites

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a high-quality experience, we have decided to temporarily pause the Advanced Filtering (Transparent URL Filtering) development to refine its functionality. In the meantime, as we refine the deliverables and such, we welcome your input on this proposed functionality.

I'm amazed that a DNS filter service would even attempt this level of control. This is definitely a WEB filtering service. DNS can really only answer the "where is it" question and if (e.g. reddit.com) the domain is approved. Performing a level of URL/WEB inquiry would most certainly require an endpoint agent. I can see where this would get shelved as an idea. A huge number of our endpoints don't run the agent since they never leave the building (and we prefer not to use it if we don't have to as it causes other issues at times).

Hi! Is there any update to this?
Trevor Tungseth
Hi Moshe,
We are still working on the Advanced Filtering feature set using feedback we've collected during the Beta program. We don't have a specific release date to communicate, but we will continue to update this item as we get closer to releasing this feature.
Trevor Tungseth
Update: We have concluded the Advanced Filtering Beta program we launched earlier this year. While this Beta program has ended, we will be conducting future Beta programs as new capabilities are developed and being made available.
Hello All,
I'm excited to let you know that Windows is now supported for the Advanced Filtering Beta! We are looking for both MacOS and Windows customers who are interested in joining the beta program to try out the new functionality and provide feedback as we continue to develop this feature. If you'd like to request an invite, please complete the Beta request form found here: https://explore.dnsfilter.com/beta-request?utm_medium=canny.
Thanks!
Eric Nix
Trevor Tungseth That's awesome. Will this only be available for relay clients or will it also be available for all clients?
Trevor Tungseth
Hi Eric! This will initially be available for customers who use MacOS and Windows roaming clients with support for additional deployments being considered as a future improvement.

I actually came here looking for this feature. Our needs are now complex, but let me outline it. Assume we have bought 8 companies, merged into one.
The concern is data usage. Yes, this is more of a parenting problem than a technical one, but a technical control would help a lot.
- Execs/Owners - little restrictions.
- Company one - due to promises made years ago, little restriction - block adult content, botnets, etc.
- Other companies -a bit more than 2, maybe a lot more.
- company ipads - block a ton to save on data as people give to their kids on the weekend for car trips, etc. The users need for work, so we want to allow some YouTube, based on categorization. We don't want them in the field streaming videos all day. So, YouTube, block Music, etc. Trevor Tungseth I can hop on a call too if need be.
Trevor Tungseth
Thomas Sweet: Thanks for the comment! I'd love to hop on a call with you to learn more. I'll send you an email to get a time set up.
Stephen
Any update on this?
Trevor Tungseth
Stephen: Hi Stephen! Yes, this feature is currently in active development and is scheduled to be available within the next couple of months. We do have a Beta currently available as well for MacOS if that is something you would be interested in. Would you be open to a 15-20 min call to discuss more about URL filtering and the use cases you are hoping to solve with it?
Fabian
Hello all,
We are a K-12 school. We need to allow "google.com", but we would like to filter nasty websites like "sites.google.com/site/classroom6x"
Crossing fingers... 8-)
Steve Staden
Fabian: Good news, that's actually one of the specific use cases we have working today with the beta. Would love to get you involved in the beta program and get your feedback on use cases. I'll follow-up over email.
Fabian
Steve Staden we can help if you wish. Thanks a lot in advance.

URL Support in White list (and black)
Joseph Bacino
We have situations where our UTM will need to down load IP or Domain list.
If we have the category blocked, the UTM can not download the needed file.
Allowing the a URL will allow us to keep DNSFilter top level blocks for that domain while the UTM is able get the request it needs.
Example:
Block this page
1http://somepage.com
but allow
11http://somepage.com/IPlist.txt
or
11http://list.somepage.com
Allowing a direct url in the white list would help.
Edit: added characters to from of URL as the sample goes to a page.
