Additional "Quick Lists" for easy blocking of popular services
launched
Ethan Piliavin
I see the page https://docs.dnsfilter.com/docs/popular-domains on your website which is very helpful in blocking common sites. I would love to see some additional common applications which are not single domain based, that many of us in education (or otherwise) may typically want to block. This would be very helpful in saving lots of time when researching what to block. Some particulars:
Pandora
Amazon Video
Vimeo
Apple Music
Google Music
iMessage
Facetime
Fortnite network

Hello voters! A quick announcement regarding what was originally titled quick lists has a soft launch next week. The new feature titled AppAware will be generally available the week of Feb 8th.
The new policy feature allows for one-click blocking of commonly used applications ripe with security concerns such as VPN apps, file sharing, and remote desktop.
This first set of apps are themed with security in mind and we will follow up with more app themes in the future.
In addition to the new policy control AppAware includes a dedicated reporting view, screenshot attached.
We can't wait for you to give AppAware a spin.

Cloud Application

There is a need to identify the Saas applications that a business is using. It would be useful if a report could filter and report on known applications, google suite, microsoft o365 and the like. It's hard to figure out browsing from actual accounts being used. Perhaps when a login sequence happens?
(Microsoft claims to have a cloud security app, but it is dependent on Microsoft.) Your product is positioned to be a much better choice.

Block Smart TV phone-home / advertising
David
Working in the K-8 sector we are concerned with Smart-TVs. Currently we avoid the issues by never connecting any Smart TV to our network (and hence not the internet) in any way, and using external devices (Apple TVs mostly) for all the functions we need. It would be great, however, to be able to use the built-in smart features while blocking ALL communications with the manufacturer (i.e. Samsung, Vizio, etc.) or any advertising networks associated with these devices (i.e. like Samsung apparently tried to do back in 2016 - https://www.extremetech.com/electronics/241500-samsung-smart-tv-update-forces-users-see-ads ).

Hi David, thank you for the feedback. I'm going to merge this request with a similar project currently in progress. I personally adhere to your advice regarding smart TVs and an upcoming feature is poised to address your concern.
The gist of the solution is to block all the domains required for the TV to phone-home. However, it's difficult to gather all the necessary domains so we have done that for you with AppAware. The feature is currently in progress and includes shortcuts for blocking both Samsung and Vizio TV domains.

Hi voters. Thanks for your feedback. A new feature we call AppAware is underway that will allow blocking common apps with a single click. Stay tuned.

Mikey @DNSFilter: Hi Mikey Any Eta for this feature ?
Robert
I'd like to add Dropbox and Slack to that list... there's a LOT of subdomains that are associated with those sites; it'd be nice to click a box for the service and have them all pre-populate!

Hi voters, we are working on a feature that will provide one-click control over many platforms. We are starting with Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, and Epic Games with more platforms to follow.
We understand it's difficult to manage the various domains used by these platforms with your allow/block lists and want to provide a shortcut.
We have a mockup and I would appreciate some feedback. Please provide any thoughts you have on the attached screenshot. I'm purposefully leaving out a description to help determine if the layout is optimal.
This is certainly not a final design and all features are subject to change.

Mikey @DNSFilter: This is fantastic and is a great new feature to be implementing! Looking forward to it going live!

Mikey @DNSFilter: This is awesome. Thank you.

New Categories - Bandwidth Hogs
ND-Viewer
Request for ability to block different types of 'bandwidth hogging' online services. This is especially useful for deployments where bandwidth costs are a concern (planes, trains, and buses).
Example 1: We want to allow casual browsing and usage of social media services, but wish to block videos on those sites. This can be accomplished by placing all domains related to video hosting / streaming into the existing Streaming Media category or a new category such as Bandwidth Hogs - Social Media Videos. Some examples of these domains are: video.ak.fbcdn.net;
Example 2: We want the ability to block background bandwidth hogs, such as Microsoft updates, Apple updates, Android updates, iCloud syncing, Google photo syncing, iOS App Store, Google Play Store, etc. Again, these could be grouped into a few different Bandwidth Hogs categories.
These should be additional options or categories, so we have the needed granularity for our customers.
